UCI Statement on Gonzalo Joaquin Najar, Gaston Emiliano Javier and UCI Continental Team Sindicato de Empleados Publicos de San Juan

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that two riders of the UCI Continental Team Sindicato de Empleados Publicos de San Juan were notified of an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) in samples collected during the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional.

The Argentinian rider Gonzalo Joaquin Najar was notified of an AAF of CERA in a sample collected on 21 January 2018.
The Argentinian rider Gaston Emiliano Javier was notified of an AAF of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids in a sample collected on 23 January 2018.

Both intelligence-led doping controls were planned and carried out by the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation (CADF), the independent body mandated by the UCI, in charge of defining and implementing the anti-doping strategy in cycling.

The riders have the right to request and attend the analysis of the B sample.

In accordance with UCI Anti-Doping Rules, the riders have been provisionally suspended until the adjudication of the affair.

These two cases within the same twelve-month period trigger the application of article 7.12.1 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules providing for the suspension of the Team from 15 days to 45 days (*).

The UCI will refer the matter to the Disciplinary Commission which will render a decision against the team in due course.

At this stage of the procedure, the UCI will not comment any further on any of these matters.

(*) Article 7.12 ADR which entered into force on 1 January 2015.
